About Me
Hello, I’m Melvin and I’m a former Science, Biology, and Chemistry teacher at Bartley Secondary School in Singapore. I graduated from the National Institute of Education in 2020 and the National University of Singapore and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018. I am also a graduate of the interdisciplinary University Scholars Programme, an honours college under the National University of Singapore.
I would describe myself as a curious person who values academic research and exploration with the aim of making a substantial contribution in understanding and solving problems in our increasing volatile and complex world. I collaborate well with people from different cultures, best exemplified by the 1.5 years I spent abroad in North Carolina completing my Joint Degree. I see myself as a resourceful and responsible leader through my experiences leading various clubs and societies as an undergraduate student. I am also resilient and always ready for a new challenge.
My research interests are in understanding how health outcomes can be affected directly or indirectly by public health policies, and to evaluate solutions to minimise inequalities in health outcomes. I am also interested in discussing methods used to communicate scientific and healthcare policies in order to combat the spread of misinformation in online and offline spaces.
